Inspired by patterns and textures in the natural world, Megan Adams Brooks creates abstract paintings on silk, which involves a time-sensitive and multi-layered process that fulfills her unending obsession to create.

Her silk paintings and pillows are available at Blue Print in Dallas, Texas.
Megan Adams Textiles Fabric through Laura Lee Clark Showroom also in Dallas, Texas.

At what point in your life did you know you wanted to pursue art?
Early on, when I was a freshman at Southern Methodist University. SMU has an intense studio art program and I was committed from the beginning. I did have the “starving artist” conversation with my dad but he was really supportive. He is a supporter of Texas artist.
Describe your process. Do you have special tools or devices, which impact your work?
I stretch silk fabric onto handmade frames then I use a silk resist. Once the resist dries, I paint with fabric dyes and then I set the dyes. This process is repeated several times within a piece.

Tell me about your table. Did you have it made?
Yes, and it’s been a game changer. It made a huge impact on my work and allowed me to really spread out while I work.

This one is beautiful! It reminds me of an octopus?
Actually, I was thinking about pomegranate seeds while I painted it.

What prompted you to create a textile line?
It has added another platform for me to create and another line of revenue.

Regarding your work, do you have anything exciting coming up?
I am currently in a group show at the MAC, which includes participants from solo shows at the MAC since 2004. The show runs from Nov 8 – Dec 20. On Thursday, November 13th from 5pm - 7pm I have a show at Blue Print, which I am very excited about.
